Produced by Riffle Shuffle in collaboration with Obec Studio, Chiaroscuro is painted by Santiago Forero Molano and features many of his closest friends, matching their personalities with the character of each suit.
Implemented in even the most ancient of cards, suits have long been attributed to four basic fields of life: emotion, thought, the material world and our physical being. Mixing these concepts with an early 20th Century aesthetic, Molano is not only paying homage to an impressionist style by using colour as a vehicle of meaning, but also one of the most prominent expositors of this artistic movement, master painter Camille Pissarro, whose work has been recreated in two stunning Jokers which depict characters performing The Spring and Pandora.
In many ways, Cardistry is one of the more particular disciplines in the world. Chiaroscuro aims to embrace the distinction and elegance that the art of card flourishing stands for by combining it with new concepts and contributing to the future of cardistry and community-driven creation.
Limited to 2,500 and printed by The United States Playing Card Company.
